A port is defined as an area on both land and water, whether on the sea or river, that provides facilities for shipping vessels to load and unload their cargo. MechaSpin has experience providing solutions on both sides of the operation.

On the Water:
In barge terminals across the world operations managers face the same problems caused by the danger, lack of accuracy and lack of consistency related to the barge surveying process. MechaSpin has developed Drafteye, a volumetric measuring system that gets your surveying personnel off the barge and detects the real-time draft of shipping barges for optimal loading, draft, and tonnage calculations.

On Land:
Our customer needed to add 3D Lidar capabilities to an open-air, free standing portal to automatically capture and process containers, chassis, and trailer dater. Utilizing the MSx Processing Engine, MechaSpin's team delivered a damage inspection system to the automated gate system which provides a competitive advantage to ports and terminals looking to increase traffic efficiency, reduce processing times and complete accurate damage inspections.

MechaSpin has also developed Advanced Collision Avoidance Systems for Rubber Tire Gantry (RTG) Cranes and other heavy machinery. MechaSpin’s MSx processing engine allows data to be analyzed in real-time to determine proximity of Rubber Tire Gantry Cranes in relation to workers and other equipment up to 60 meters away. These systems alert operators when these assets are with the safe operating distance.









Our customers at Cavotec USA and Oceaneering needed a system that would have full control of their MooreMaster System’s massive robotic arms to manage positioning and force for ship to ship mooring in the marine environment. Using advanced 3D Lidar sensing technology and the MSx Processing Engine, MechaSpin’s team of engineers developed, tested and delivered a solution that detects the features of the incoming hull and autonomously indicates the optimal attachment point successful mooring.









3D Lidar can map areas quickly and accurately, which is especially important for large areas like crop fields. Traditionally, Lidar has been used in agricultural settings to survey fields using drones to provide more information on how to further precision agriculture initiatives. In addition, Lidar can also be used to provide real-time 3D perception for autonomy and real-time decision making capabilities.

Our customers at Harvest Croo Robotics needed to a team that could merge the point clouds from 4 Lidar sensors to create a 360° shield around their Autonomous Strawberry Picker for collision avoidance (and autonomous row alignment). MechaSpin’s team developed, tested and delivered a system that detects workers, equipment, and environmental irregularities from up to 30 meters away from the strawberry harvester. The system also integrates the data into the control system of the harvester to ensure the safety of employees and their robot.









Forklift accidents cost an estimated $3.7 billion per year in the U.S. and are the cause of 34,900 serious injuries including 100 deaths. Almost 80% of these accidents involve a pedestrian. These accidents cause property damage, disrupt business operations, and result in worker compensation claims, costing companies millions of dollars in losses. The average cost to a company for a forklift accident is $184,000 in medical expenses, lost productivity, legal liability fees, and OSHA compliance costs.

MechaSpin has developed an Advanced Driver Awareness System for forklifts and industrial vehicles. Using low- cost high-resolution 3D Lidar, ForkAlert identifies and classifies objects around the vehicle and alerts the operator when a dangerous situation is about to occur. ForkAlert alerts the operator through a series of audible and visual alerts, a full 360° around the vehicle.









Automated Tolling provides toll booth companies with a number of very challenging problems including aiming cameras, triggering RFID scanners, counting the number of axles on an incoming vehicle, identifying hitched trailers and categorizing vehicles based on size. The current solutions to these challenges requires multiple technologies and sensors for each lane of traffic and inductive ground loops which are easy to damage and expensive to replace. Today’s low-cost high-resolution 3D lidar sensors enables the accurate scanning and advanced classification of objects at highway speeds and will reduce costs related to the number of sensors needed and replacing the need for outdated technologies like ground loops.









Many facilities such as airports, ports & terminals, storage yards, warehouses and power plants use automatic zone detection and intrusion identification to ensure the safety and security in high risk areas.
